Jeremiah, who works as a handyman in a rural area, wants the township supervisors to erect an alabaster statue, a fair likeness of him, in the town square, and to declare him a saint by the grace of God, in recognition of the miracles he has performed, and the acts of love he has done for those in need.   Jeramiah, Everybody's Servant , 12/13/2004
Reviewer: Evelyn Kuhn
Don't let the title and cover fool you! Jeremiah, a displaced prophet, evokes laughter and empathy as he deals with his the 20th century demons of his own dysfunctional family and small-minded community. God, himself, serves as a personable narrator who comments freely on the foibles of saints and sinners. Readers are in for a treat as they follow Jeremiah and his beloved disciple through the streets of small town America.

Jeremiah, My Servant is a deeply moving novel about a man struggling with the idea that he is a "saint by the grace of God". Mr. Vanston takes an imaginative, thoughtful, and witty approach to the story, as evidenced by the fact that one of the narrators of his novel is God Himself. The novel basically is about how Jeremiah, and those around him, live up to the challenges that his life, and his God, bring him. It becomes a truly moving saga, ultimately providing real insight into the human condition.

Once you open this book you will not put it down until the question is answered. Will God see to it that Jeremiah gets his statue? Jeremiah has to deal with all the problems of family life, earning a living as well as earning the right in Gods' eyes to deserve the statue. The book is un- conventional and interesting to say the least. The author has cleverly developed his characters to peak the interest of the reader, they play out the full range of life itself humor, sadness, challenges and determination.

Deserves to be a Best Seller , 01/05/2005
Reviewer: Daniel Brier
This book is fun and inspiring. The main character, Jeremiah, is compelled to follow the will of his God, a God that is at once both all powerful and imperfect. Many well placed Biblical and literary references support the development of rich characters; characters that are complex but understandable. This is a page turner that leaves the reader with a smile and a sense of having been enriched.
