Abstract:
Tunnel Gulch is about Jeremiah Miller, a Texas trail driver who finds himself helping a Mennonite community both in Kansas and in Colorado in the 1880's. The violence of the life of a gunfighter and the pacifist ways of the Mennonites creates tension whenever the real world of the frontier confronts the idealism of the faith community. The story is set in incredible beauty in on the western slope of the Rockies in central Colorado. The story involves the narrow gauge railroad line the Denver and South Park that used Alpine Tunnel through the continental divide to get to Pitkin and Gunnison.
