He fought for his life, then he fought for his soul. Amid violence, chaos, and self-destruction, he found salvation in the love of a good woman, and the wisdom of Truly Noland.

Abstract:
In Search of Truly Noland is the autobiographical story of one man’s journey in search of inner peace and enlightenment. The story traces the life of S.D. Bates from his early years in San Francisco, California, in the 1950’s, through the trials of an abusive upbringing, ferocious combat in Vietnam, the resulting personal struggles with the destructive effects of post-traumatic stress disorder and, finally, spiritual redemption through the discovery of the higher self within. With the help of Truly Noland the author realizes the secrets of overcoming fear and living in the warm light of love, peace, freedom, and happiness.

We've all been there. Their's is better, faster, nicer, prettier. Why them and not me? Follow this man's journey from a soft, cuddly beginning in one of the most beautiful places on earth thru a life of abuse, incarceration, war, depression, and addition to love and salvation by his own devices. Grace Slick once crooned: 'Feed your head.' All you've read 'til now is just appetizers in preparation for this literary gourmet feast!

  Compelling Story , 02/28/2005
Reviewer: Elizabeth - San Diego
I read a lot and this book is incredible. It draws the reader in, contains convincing detail and action, is clearly written, credible, and has real impact. It also has many wonderful life messages contained within. I have never read a book cover to cover before this one. It was so compelling, I just kept turning the pages for more. If you love good writing with no "fluff" to fill pages, you will definitely enjoy this. I understand this is a first time author. He is so polished, I know this book will be a best seller. I look forward to more from this author.

  Remarkable! , 03/04/2005

My husband reads alot of books. I never seem to have time. When he couldn't put this one down I decided to pick it up when he finished out of curiosity. It is such a page turner I read it in 4 nights. It is about a man who was literally robbed of his childhood enduring painstaking suffering at the hands of dysfunctional parents...he had to grow up fast and hard and tough. He saw so much and did so much all before the age of 18 that many of us can only imagine. Lost loves, found love, and came out remarkably strong and with a sensitive heart. A MUST read!

  Amazing Story! , 03/04/2005

This is such an incredible tribute to the human spirit. Good, bad, beautiful, ugly, happy and sad. It shows how the human spirit protects us from the evils we sometimes endure in life, yet keeps us going and looking for the greatness that it has to offer us within ourselves. I've always had a good relationship with God, but in recent months I've been guided by Him to find something I was not quite sure of. I've been reading alot of books about different subjects, and it was this book that showed me I've been looking for "truly" as well. I am so glad that S.D. Bates found a way to write this book. I am even happier that he found the courage to release it. My journey in search of Truly Noland continues...

This was a book I could not put down. I was carried through every emotion I am capable of in just four days. It was pleasantly exhausting. Each chapter made me hungry for the next. I stared into my own eyes in the mirror- looking for Truly, truly looking.

This book reads as if you are standing there watching the scenario unfold right in front of your eyes. It makes your heart hurt and your blood boil. And in the end you are left with a sense of peace. It is not often you find a book that truly evokes such feelings.

Reviewer: Boogie
I was so enthralled that I read it all in one day. The story flowed well, was well written, and very captivating. I was taken on a journey with this author through every emotion possible. I laughed, cried, raged, and had moments of deep thought. The details were so vivid I felt as if I was there with the author in ever part of the story. The message is clear and truly enlightening. A great read for anyone!

Well wonderful brother of mine..I read your book and I must say you captured every emotion in me as if it were TODAY. In fact so much so that I had to stop and tear up in at least six different spots to reflect before I could continue. I'm so proud of you in your accomplishments and the fact that you know how to write like this. There is so much more you didn't even get to...guess you'll have to write a second book. Good job! I love you.

  "TRULY" a gift... , 03/20/2005
Reviewer: Janel
I hope, but am not sure, the Author understands the REAL GIFT he has given to his readers. WE all have a disfunctional family, a Viet Nam Vet, a brother, and sister, a mother, a lover, that we can relate to in this story. Did not want this story to end, wishing to find for myself, the True way to live this life, that seems ugly and phony, in the spiritual realm. The courage, honor, and honesty it took to write this book, is a true gift to the reader...so well written, that you felt you were there. Please, continue such an endeavour, to allow others in this life, full of pain, to find peace and love, for all that we know and love. Thankyou...and AGAIN....thankyou.
