A nautical vacation turns into a quest for survival when the ship is destroyed. Brooke and Renee are marooned with over a hundred other lesbians.

Abstract:
Brooke Kent lost her parents and was raised by her grandmother who unexpectedly died. Brooke was left feeling too intimate with grief. Through the encouragement of her friend, Renee, Brooke goes on a lesbian cruise. The nautical vacation turns into a quest for survival when the ship is destroyed. Brooke and Renee are marooned with over a hundred other lesbians. There, Brooke responds to shaping her own destiny with uncharacteristic risk taking. The mystery of the island’s previous inhabitants reminds the castaways of civilizations far-reaching influences. And the cause of the ship wreck focuses world-wide attention on lesbians in America.

  Enlightening, warm-hearted read , 05/18/2005

For someone who loves character-driven books as I do, this is an enlightening, warm-hearted read. The author spends much her time giving the reader details about women's personal lives. There is a game called the "Pinky Swear". People are asked questions about their past lives (quite often involving their sex lives)and there is much pathos, humor, complexity, and struggle revealed. For me this book offers an in-depth insight into how all women cope with those "well-kept" secrets we've carried from adolescence. Especially those of us who have not taken the Middle Road (or safer trail). As a straight woman, I also found Ms. Wagner's often humorous loving descriptions of life among lesbians on a deserted island (with no male or societal influences) gave the reader a meaningful, sometimes raw look at members of our society so many of us have not had the priviledge of knowing.

Sexy, fun, thought provoking , 05/20/2005

This is the best book I've read in a while (and I helped edit it!) I laughed and I cried, it made me think and most importantly I cared about these characters. Ms. Wagner touches not only on complex issues in the Lesbian community but political and social issues that effect everyone. This story explores our relationships with others and internal struggles to remain true to ourselves as well as the trials and tribulations of finding a healthy romantic relationship. The story is fun and original, and the characters are unforgettable.
