Abstract:
The Tarzan Club offers a vivid firsthand account of boyhood during the 40’s in a small Tennessee town. After seeing a matinee of Tarzan the Ape Man, David organizes the children in his neighborhood to bring excitement to the long summer vacation. The fun and games lead to rope swings, hikes, cookie plundering and tricks. On rainy days, Monopoly can take all day. A family cow is purchased as a milk source. Regular neighborhood milk sale became family responsibilities. They work together to tend a large garden. Pearl Harbor happens and life rhythms change forever.
