Humor and fun—the way it was! Feel the love of family, friends, neighbors and God. Experience the engaging country antics of Freddy and George in the 1940s and 50s.

Abstract:
It’s a story with humor…the way it was…and love…of family, friends, rural neighbors, and God, in Mid-America in the 1940s and 50s. Freddy and George live through fresh feathered eggs, bathroom episodes, one-pig diners, Aunt Maggie’s blue jays, and milking school.

There are times of painting like P. Kosso, being a hop too slow, the wrong color calf, a lily-livered puff, cow-tail skiing, church-camp undercover undressing, and more.

This living-history book has practical jokes and self-inflicted humorous events—all true—or could be. In the end, family values developed from their Christian walk help them meet all kinds of challenges...and predicaments.

The way things were , 09/15/2005
Reviewer: Joyce Elcock
The era of this book is "before my time" but I was taken back to that time by skilled story telling. This was a sweet story of two brothers growing up in farm country Kansas during the time of one room school houses and no electricity. Their relationship with each other and their parents was Waltonesque. At times I shed a tear and at other times I laughed out loud. I won't be able to eat Cream of Wheat without laughing. This book did not disappoint.

stories of a less hurried time , 09/27/2005
Reviewer: Martina (Tina) Trudo
The authors did a great job of bringing the "good ole days" back to a very different way of life today. The stories are of my era, and I could relate to many. With Freddie's adventuresome personality, he is probably still daring skunks. When you read this book, and it was in "your time", best have the Depends ready for the "funny stuff". A wonderful read for all ages.

The good old days , 09/29/2005
Reviewer: Barbara Sunley
This book brought me back to the good old days where family is first. There was always something to do at the Burgess house and Freddie's and George's parents always were having them do chores. There was a lot of learning and a lot of laughing for the family and for those who read the book. It brought back memories for me of the old crank phones and the millking process that my aunts and uncles used to do. I'm looking forward to the next book they publish!

We could have been neighbors , 11/02/2005
Reviewer: Tom and Marjorie Blinn, Greenville, MI
We walked with Freddy and George through their story, feeling like we were their neighbors. Although hailing from another state, we relived each Kansas adventure as if it were in our own back yard. In the mid 20th Century, our Michigan families, communities, and churches taught the same principles that guided these boys during their growing years. What a delight to read and feel a part of FRESH FEATHERED EGGS!

Bravo, Freddy and George , 11/23/2005

reviewer: Joanne Starks from Los Angeles As I read Fresh Feathered Eggs, I couldn’t put it down until I finished. Although the Book has a rural setting and I grew up in a big city, the stories brought back similar memories of my childhood. The Book has so much humor: Uncle Tom carving cheese with his skunk skinning knife, church camp undercover undressing, and lighting the schoolhouse stove; and, so much human interest: surviving the Flood, avoiding the Poor Farm, and neighbors helping neighbors. This is a great book. Bravo, Freddy and George

Reading this book was pure joy! , 01/22/2006

Reading these hilarious accounts pulls open "a curtain" to memories of my own childhood in the 1950's. The Burgess brothers tell the stories that describe that era, when values of a loving family, good-natured humor & faith were central & made for a happy childhood. I can't wait for the sequel.

Takes Me Back to Manitoba , 03/14/2006
Reviewer: Tom Dame
Fresh Feathered Eggs is like my own experiences growing up in Manitoba. It was so interesting, I almost read it straight through because I couldn't wait to find out what came next. Cold winters and a one room school experiences were special, too. Like in the book, we had a John Deere and an old Chevy, and we milked cows and did chores each night and each morning.

  Oh the Memories.... , 04/11/2006
Reviewer: Allen and Delma Benson
FRESH FEATHERED EGGS is wonderful. We couldn't put the Book down until we finished it. Allen lived on a farm in South Dakota, and attended a one room school. My farm experiences were in Kansas, not far from where the Burgess brothers grew up. We laughed and laughed as we read about these boys' activities. I had brothers, so Freddy's and George's antics were no strangers to me. We're telling our family and friends about this Book, as many will love to have a copy. We can't wait for the Burgess Boys' second book, THE CREEP OF HER OUTFIT, to be published in a few months. We're sure it will provide many exciting adventures as Freddy and George venture into high school age. Delma and Allen Benson, Park Rapids, MN
