Although a Catholic priest, Dennis Tierney was in love with Janet Charpentier. Love Is Strong as Death is the moving story of two people struggling to be faithful to their religion… and to love.

Abstract:
At the age of ninety, Dennis Tierney looks back over his life and his relationship with Janet Charpentier. Set in Connecticut, the story follows these two characters over the course of their lives.

Since Dennis was a Catholic priest for a number of years, the story describes the Catholic culture as it evolved in America during the Twentieth Century.

Love is Strong as Death is a tale of the power of love to enrich human lives. In one sense, Dennis and Janet are “old fashioned,” living by values that today may seem quaint. However, with the light given to them by their religion and the time in which they lived, they are believable, appealing, and inspiring.

“Love is Strong as Death” by William F. Powers joins the Shakespeare’s & Dickinson’s love story classics of our time. It is a poignant and deeply moving dissertation storied to explore love, life, the catholic religion and human’s frailties in order to discover the true meaning of our existence here on earth. The layered truths may hopefully help others to understand and accept with unconditional love the tragedies that emanate from lost souls moving with hope towards a final redemption and acceptance from themselves and from God. I am proud to have been a former student of a professor who obviously sees beneath the surface of life. Submitted by Bernadine Fawcett, A.A.,B.A.,G.S.S.

Yes, I'm the author! Notice that I give my novel a "3" out of "5." That's not because I don't like my production, but because I set very high standards for excellence. My college students used to complain about that when I said that a "C" was an average grade and that many students were, yes, average. A "B" was very good and and "A" was superior. It's only in Garrison Keiller's fictional Lake Wobegon that all the children are above average. Anyway, this is my first (and probably last!) venture into novel writing. It was a lot of fun. The story draws from my personal history as a Catholic priest although the characters are fictional and the key events the product of my imagination. Won't keep you longer. Hope you'll read the book!
