Abstract:
This is the memoir of an African-American's personal battle against bigotry finding him in the middle of some of the most historic civil rights struggles in the 1960s. The story reveals to the reader inside secrets of "sit-in" protests and facing down a race riot in Oxford, Mississippi.

My book provides a personal look inside some of the historic civil rights struggles in the 1960s from an African-American perspective. The story reveals secrets of what happened while leading sit-in protests and facing down a race riot when James Meredith entered the University of Mississippi, untold in the history books.

  A Rare Inside View! , 02/25/2006

Wow!! Dr. Shockley has blessed us with a rare inside view of African-American history. His writing style flows with clarity and fills readers with valuable life lessons. The book shows us how one decision in life can change your path. It shows us the importance of family. The most important lesson is that we, not just as African Americans but as human beings, can accomplish great things when we organize and come together in peace. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, this lesson is invaluable.

What a powerful reminder of the struggles of our generation to obtain equality! I could not put this book down until I finished reading. My wife did the same thing. This account added a personal perspective to the events of the 60's that lead to a national awakening. We are proud to know the author and prouder to have him reflect on his endeavors. We anxiously await his next book!
