Abstract:
In 1980, Marion Alexander married Master Maine Guide Dick Higgins, moving with him from California to northern rural Maine, just a few miles from the town that originally inspired the TV show, Northern Exposure. After nearly 20 years, they retired together to southwest Virginia, where Marion began writing and performing humorous essays describing the culture shock of that 3,000 mile move, and the further acclimation to retirement. “The experience of two people spending twenty-four/seven in one small space is not to be belittled—only those of us who have retired truly know what that can mean!”
