Abstract:
With style and wit the author leads you, the reader, through a land of cathedrals and castles touched with the witchery of rock, forest, and rivers. Enjoy Angers, Angoulême, and the Dordogne Valley with prehistoric paintings hidden deep in caverns. Walk Pont Valentré, the fairy-tale bridge. Visit Sarlat, dark and whimsical; and timeworn Rocomadour, the strange rock-town anchored dizzily to the face of a cliff. Discover the mysterious valley of the Tarn, admire the Roman Pont du Gard built in 50 A.D. Walk up the papal garden of Avignon and contemplate the city that fascinates with its ancient glory.

Mr. Callewaert's knowledge of history, archaeology, architecture, literature, and expertise in little-known provinces of France, reveal to the traveler stories of immense interest, almost inexhaustible. His effortless prose flows from the page, weaving a spell over the reader, evoking times long passed.

I have just finished reading "A Romanesque Journey" describing what seems like a truly beautifl region of France. J.M. Callewaert's narrative is spellbinding and his detailed description of the castles and the landscape are fascinating to read. I wish I could hop on a plane to southwestern France tomorrow!
