Abstract:
A More Perfect Union is the story of America’s rise to superpower status, its little-known behind-the-curtain international dealings, and the impact of those dealings upon the world today. It is the story of one man’s desire to balance the pain and personal experiences of his youth, with the idealism of military service and society in general. It is a story that reveals how what we believe, what we are taught to believe, and what the truth is are sometimes totally different things. Finally, A More Perfect Union is the story of a journey from Socialization to Realization. It is a journey we all must take.

Mr. Hargraves captures the spirit of Wisdom, Knowledge and Truth in his literary work, "A More Perfect Union: Socialization to Realization". As a young American, I see this book as an invaluable tool to "fill-in" the historical gaps of present day events. His work has the power to open the minds of readers to facts that will produce an insatiable hunger for the truth and an unyielding thirst for knowledge. His words are motivation to others to ascertain the components of truth in every element of life. Thank God for a man with this level of INTEGRITY amongst the wolves we face today. I wait eagerly for the next book!!

A factual entertaining book for the thinking man. , 07/19/2006
Reviewer: Paul J. Malone
A More Perfect Union captures the life experiences of a young man(Author)from his childhood in the tough streets of Brooklyn, NY to his military career that took him all over the world. Through his experiences and hard work he becomes a leader with integrity, honor and rises up through the ranks. He learns great truths about his country and there policies and questions himself countless. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down. It was entertaining, humorous and factual. I could relate on many topics and felt at times the Author was writing about me. The Author inspires you to never stop teaching yourself and to obtain facts before you come to conclusions. This books puts world events in factual order and in my opinion shows many truths that where always right in front of me, but blocked out by my spoiled ways of being an American. I would encourage anyone to read this book.

  A must read!!!! , 07/21/2006
Reviewer: Todd C. Bascom
I do not exaggerate when I say that I sincerely believe this is one of the most importantant books I have ever read or will ever read. In today's polarized political environment, Maurice Hargraves teaches us a valuable lesson about the dangers of extremism;religious, political or otherwise. It is this extremism that threratens the well-being of our society to a far greater extent than any external force we as Americans will face. Finally, someone gets it! Thank you Mr. Hargraves!

  Outstanding , 07/29/2006
Reviewer: JoAnna Brodie
A very personal and profound journey through the life of a very accomplished military professional who challenged himself to face the realities of inner-city life, the way out, the rewards of dedication to his country, but most importantly the gift of self-education about the realities of the human condition, the foundation this country was built upon, US foreign policy, and accontabilities each of us must assume to create "A More Perfect Union". This is a very critical read to help us all understand the current climate for US military personnel and calls on each citizen to act, to assure we preserve our country and our rights under the Consititution of the United States. Amazingly, this author created what I call a 'Soup to Nuts' volume of US history that is a gift to all of us who have been hoping someone would pull it all together into one consice, fact-based volume that puts it ALL into perspective! It will make you laugh, cry, and think, and think, and think, and think....... Thank you Mr. Hargraves, Well Done!

  Destined to be a classic , 08/03/2006
Reviewer: Jeffrey Quick
A more perfect union is destined to be a classic. Mourice Hargraves details his life as a solder and his experience to not only serve his country but but to grow as an individual. He makes the point that it can be dangerous when we let others form opinions for us when we fail to take the time to discover the truth for ourselves. The book paints an important historical and political timeline and gives great insight into some of he great military plays both known and unknown that have molded this country into the super power that it is but at the same time have cast it in an unfavorable light to many other nations of the world. At a point in time when there is so much political turmoil in the world, this serves as a reminder that we the people need to pay more atteniton to our responsibilites as citizens and not take them for granted.

  No nonsense approach , 08/08/2006
Reviewer: Dan Reading
Quite simply put, 'A More Perfect Union' will have you lying in bed at night analyzing the path and direction of your life and the lives of others. It will entice you to discuss things that maybe society says we shouldn't openly challenge or discuss. It will have you talking to your friends and loved ones like maybe you never have before. Mr. Hargraves will truly open some eyes and ears with his release 'A More Perfect Union." I applaud him for his no nonsense approach to writing, life, love, and politics. Hopefully this will be one of many books to come from this promising new author!

Call to Personal Responsibility and Accountability , 08/13/2006
Reviewer: Cheryl A. James
Mr. Hargraves issues a Call to personal responsibility and accountability in his phenomenal book, "A More Perfect Union: Socialization to Realization". This book invokes a multifaceted pool of emotions for me personally - feelings of embarrassment due to my lack of knowledge in many areas of my nation's history and my indifference to it as well. It also invokes anger because I know people parish because of lack of knowledge. Along with these feelings of anger and embarrassment I am compelled to learn more and not take things in stride. His words serve as motivation to discern the truth in every facet of life. Thank God for calling a man for such a time as this to bring enlightenment to a murky and often outright false picture of historical events as we have fore-believed! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down. Mr. Hargraves book was not only eye-opening - it was entertaining, humorous and factual. This thought-provoking book is a very critical instrument to help us all understand the current climate for the US military and the US as a whole. It calls on each citizen to act, to assure we preserve our country and our rights under the Constitution. As Mr. Hargraves so pointedly states, "We need to take a good look at ourselves, individually, and determine whether or not we want to build the society we were founded to become or continue to build upon the society we are rapidly becoming."

  A Thought-Provoking Book , 08/15/2006
Reviewer: Heather Dunn
A More Perfect Union is a thought-provoking book about America as told through the eyes of one man's life journey. The primary focus is to entice the reader to think for themselves instead of blindly absorbing information from various authoritarian figures (media, government, etc). The Author provides a detailed background of both his own personal experiences as well as clips of American history, intent on addressing society's common misperceptions and the hardcore facts that this nation must face.

  Outstanding!!! , 08/24/2006
Reviewer: Steve Braden
What a great read! This is a book that you think about for quite some time after you have finished reading it. It was thought provoking and insightful. As a former Marine and Veteran of the Panama Invasion and Desert Storm, Mr. Hargraves portrayed certain aspects of the military life to the "T". A great depiction of bootcamp and life at Paris Island, so much that it took me back to that time in my life. I am looking forward with great anticipation to the next book. An absolute must read!

"Common Sense" of our time , 08/27/2006
Reviewer: John Brady
How refreshing to read a book that is unbiased and thought provoking. Mr. Hargraves' vision is a call to all people to stop being spoon fed all information they receive. It is time for people to ask "why", to take a closer look at what is provided to us as factual and believe what is truly real, regardless of political affilations and stereo-types. We must break down the liberal and conservative labels if we are to move forward as a nation and society. It truly is Common Sense. I would love to see a monthly or yearly review provided by Mr. Hargraves.

  A wonderful journey , 08/29/2006
Reviewer: Sparky Heevner
This was a wonderful read and a must read for anyone who has been in the military. I was in the Army instead of the Marines but anyone who has been to basic knows the feelings protrayed by Mr. Hargraves. I personally know Mr. Hargraves and after reading this book, I have such a better understanding of the man and very proud to call him a great friend. I also passed this book onto a Vietnam Veteran who read the book in one night and said he just couldn't put the book down and it took him back to those days and a great time in his life. This book definitely made me think, made me laugh and made me reconsider things that have happened in our history.

For every American out there , 09/04/2006
Reviewer: Connie P. Oriente
I am amazed at the profound impact this book had on me. I consider myself to be a person with better than fair knowledge of today's politics and American history, yet this book managed to catch me off guard. It is written with great honesty and simplicity; because of that, the book has the potential to touch the average American in many different ways and on many different levels. It is a book that I am encouraging my young adult son to read. It is a book that should be read by anyone who has been affected by the politics of the last 40 plus years and who hasn’t been? I applaud Mr. Hargraves, his integrity is clearly reflected in his book, and if he is the measure by which our service men and women can be judged, be they Army, Air Force, Navy or Marine not only am I proud to call them fellow Americans, I owe it to them to speak and vote with greater intention and knowledge.
