Greed must outweigh virtue in all corrupt scales of justice, but a cryptic message, key to an ancient treasure, might aid our romantic heroes as they struggle against pervasive evil.

Abstract:
A promising young painter, Hawkins Shortreed, and his friend, a gifted sculptor, happen upon an abandoned seaside farm. The stately Eighteenth Century farmhouse, a barn, an overgrown graveyard, a contending granite cliff and the surging ocean create strong illusions of past time and ghosts of past lives. How unsuspecting the artists are of the mystery and the danger attached to this idyllic property two and a quarter centuries before... mystery and danger which they stumble into.

Dick, Just a note to let you know that I thoroughly enjoyed your book. It made me feel as if I were right there. The inscription on the boulder was especially intriguing and I loved the solution. The water up there must be really cold! I was sorry to see the woods go, and very pleased that what went around came around for Wiley. Didn't know you were such a romantic! Carolyn

An exciting trip through time takes the reader from an 18th century shipwreck on the Maine coast, to sharing the joys and hard times of immigrants and settlers in that part of the world -- whence the reader finds himself immersed in events on that same Maine coast where present-day politics and corruption are corroding the charm, and squeezing the good people of the community. A delectable tale that will probably tell you more than you want to know about the town you live in.
