There once was a man who had four hearts in three days, and the only one that worked was artificial.

Abstract:
Two renowned heart surgeons race to develop the artificial heart. One for the benefit of mankind, the other for a syndicate of ex-Nazis selling human organs and art looted during WWII. Hal Jessup implants the Phoenix Heart to save a U.S. Senator, but when the senator dies, Jessup is indicted for murder. Dieter Graz develops the Munich Heart, but it has a fatal flaw. The syndicate blackmails Graz to implant the flawed heart first. In Vienna, on global television, Jessup implants the Phoenix Heart, but Graz had secretly rigged the heart to fail. Jessup must succeed to save his patient and the future of artificial hearts.

  WOW! , 08/28/2006
Reviewer: P. Lowery
First time published author Cy Vaughn stirs your imagination and wonder as he takes you deep into the passion and compassionate soul of a Heart Surgeon who strives to do what's best for his patient's lives, while, at the same time, battles face to face with the evil of this world. No author could create and write the words that describe the mind of a true surgeon unles he's "been there-done that"...Vaughn has done such a thing. Great read!

  COMPELLING THRILLER , 09/14/2006
Reviewer: CJ
Dr Cy Vaughn, retired thoracic cardio surgeon, has authored THE PHOENIX HEART, a fictionalized version of the first mechanical heart implantation in Arizona (Tucson). HE WAS THERE and wanted to put in print some of the dynamics of this chronology/event and people/politics leading to this historic AZ event -- a GREAT read! He is not only an internationally renowned doctor but is a superb writer. Compelling thriller.
