Doxography takes language instruction in a bold new direction, guided by Affective Teaching techniques, allowing language students to use right brain effectively.

Abstract:
“Doxography” is a new concept for teaching language incorporating affective elements, strategies, and “featureability,” the result of students’ work that is given with all their heart, not just their mind. Doxography is a refreshing if not radical change for American language teachers, the first such event in many years. This book is a must for new ESL/Bilingual Education teachers since it tackles the difficult issues that have plagued Bilingual Education since its inception in Colonial times to the present, explaining them with clear, energetic language, easy to understand.

What a refreshing look at Bilingual/ESL! I was taken away by the new approach to theory and application in particular. I wish I had access to a book like this when I entered the teaching field. I highly recommend this book to new teachers or experienced ones as well. A must read!

  "What a wonderful book!" , 09/27/2006

I have known Dr. Clark for several years, having graduated with him from the Summer Oxford ESL International Programme in 2002. His new book carries information about literacy and the history of writing to a new level, one that interests me greatly. I congratulate my colleague on his new work and research. All the best! I will definitely use his techniques in my ESL classes here in Switzerland!

  Enjoyable historical perspectives! , 09/28/2006
Reviewer: Dr. Chris Holloway, Prof. Emeritus
As a history professor for many years, I am pleased to read a book that appreciates the historical significance of writing and literacy, set in such a framework as Doxography. Especially the chapters of "pre-history" and the Egyptians/Hebrews piqued my interest. I suggest that even history professors take a look at this easy read. One can digest the basic concept in about two settings of intensive reading.

Refreshing ESL Text at Last!! , 05/27/2012
Reviewer: George Peterson PhD
Finally, a simple, easy-to-understand text for my ELL teachers and students! Each chapter is unique and well-researched. I highly recommend this text for librarians to stock for any university where ELL or linguistics is taught. I have offered Dr Clark Heller my congratulations and invited him to speak in London again (I first heard him at the QEII Centre back in 2002). Keep up the good work!
