Abstract:
This is the first book in a series of heartwarming stories about Austin, a young boy who adopts his first puppy, a terrier named Maisy from a local shelter. With the support of his mother and father, he begins the gratifying journey of successfully training her to be a lovely, well-mannered dog with a delightful surprise at the end. Through positive reinforcement, love and respect, and emphasis on building self-esteem in both Austin and Maisy, Austin learns that with hard work and a bit of common sense, any puppy can be a dog of your dreams.

  Warm, heartfelt story , 10/19/2007
Reviewer: Catherine Rahe
This book is great for kids and parents getting the first family dog. It's fictional yet instructional so kids can understand the importance of obedience from the start. Given the author's expertise in training, her tips are factual yet elementary enough for the younger ages.

A new puppy and this book would be a great combination , 10/31/2007
Reviewer: Mary Rose Birch
This book is delightful! The author shares wonderful ideas to help the newest family member feel welcomed in the new home and needed guidance to help a family begin training a puppy all in an entertaining story format. I love that the story highlights adoption from shelters or good breeders vs. puppy stores. I would recommend this book to all families thinking of getting a puppy. I am looking forward to the future adventures of Austin and Maisey.

This wonderful and engaging story captivates the reader from the opening scene. It is much more than a traditional boy and his dog story.. it is a feel-good story that teaches valuable lessons about raising the new puppy to become a well-mannered and enjoyable part of the family. All pounds, shelters, breeders, vets, groomers, and pet stores should have this book available to their new puppy owners.I hope this author continues this wonderful storyline
