Abstract:
“I can’t trust anyone who doesn’t know who Vaughn Monroe was,” says Peter Siedzick, in A Guest Again. Mr. Siedzick embarks on his Great American Cross-Country Freeload and visits the nation and old friends during a journey that is funny, sad, and nostalgic. Newly retired and newly widowed, he leaves his home in Oregon on a journey that is intended to help him escape bad memories. Along the way, though, he discovers much about himself, his memories and about “escaping”.

If you like travel stories, especially cross-country drive stories, you'll love A Guest Again. Siedzick really captures the spirit of his trip with keen observations, funny stories, and moving insights into how the trip deepened his understanding of his country and his own past. I do have one critical suggestion; I think the book could have benefited from a map depicting Siedzick's journey across the US, which would have made it easier to visualize his route and its great length. That said, I found this book really enjoyable.
