Abstract:
The Thousand and One Outfit is a new Western romance depicting in detail the dreams and adventures of Al Stuart, a roving Texas cowhand. The saga is set in the wild and empty Arizona Territory of the early 1870’s and follows him as he struggles to achieve his dream of finding his ranch, his sweetheart, and a home for their babies in the cool pines of the Mogollon Rim country

It has been said that if louis L'Amour says there is a well there you can rest assured you can find the well and the water will be good. Mr. Murray didn't mention a well but I know from personal experience that his description of Central Arizona is right on the money. I have chased (for a close up picture) to no avail the descendants of his "goats," the prong horn antelope, camped in the same areas as Al Stuart ridden some of the same trails (although they are now paved), and currently live in his setting, Hardyville (now Bullhead City) and Fort Mojave. For a first novel The 1001 Outfit is quite compelling, well thought out, carefully constructed, and the characters believable. The only complaint I have is that I finished the book and still want more. For a true western fan and anyone who enjoys the history of the old west The 1001 Outfit is a must read.
