Maria Hart, Chicago’s pluckiest insurance investigator, is hot on the trail of a man who took advantage of a national tragedy and disappeared with five million dollars of company money.

Abstract:
On September eleventh of 2001, Alan Flarke was in a motel with his girlfriend, not in his office, when the planes hit. He took advantage of the situation and killed the girlfriend, then disappeared with five million in company funds. With money and fake identities, his life became a no rules game. When he was spotted jogging in Chicago by a former neighbor, Maria Hart, Chicago’s pluckiest red-headed insurance investigator gets called in. The more she investigates, the more she takes the case personally. And, the more she learns about Alan Flarke, the more she realizes he’s become a socio-pathic killer.

I've read a lot of Chris' work and can say with total confidence that you'd get your money's worth if you bought this book for a fun and stimulating read. Maria Hart is legit and so is Forman.

fun and easy read , 11/10/2006

How often do you find a suspenseful mystery book that not only keeps you on the edge of your seat, but also makes you laugh so hard you fall off of it? Dead Men Don't Jog does all of this and more. With so many plot twists and turns, this book will keep you riveted until the very end. That is, unless you feel compelled to put down the book, hop on a plane, go to Chicago for lunch, find Maria Hart, do a little shoe shopping, and then return to finish the book! The premise, which is quite a serious one, is that perhaps a sociopath could take advantage of the events of September 11th to vanish and recreate himself into an even more dangerous killer. His only slip up, (other than being dead and jogging at the same time), is when his insurance company is tipped off to his possible scheme and calls in the part time Insurance Investigator/Stay at Home Mom, Maria Hart to do some investigating. This bathrobe wearing, coffee sipping, "traditionally built" woman is much more than meets the eye. She will surprise you at every turn with her intelligence, cunning, humor, and extraordinary taste for comfortable shoes and appreciation for a good lasagna! I loved this book and can't wait for the next one in this series. You can even ask Maria Hart questions at "her" website at http://www.mariahartmysteries.com/ I highly recommend this book....it is a fun and easy read and once you pick it up, you can't put it back down as evidenced by the circles under my eyes when I woke up the next day after starting it at 10 pm and finishing it at around 2:30 AM! I look forward to more of Maria Hart's unique investigations into dangerous situations, (of course once she's had her coffee and attended her daughter's school recital!) I hope the next one comes out soon.

  Good airplane book , 04/25/2007

I liked the main idea of this book and I picked it up to read on a trip to Chicago a few weeks ago. I read it while waiting for the flight, on the flight, and on the Blue line into town. I enjoyed it thoroughly and finished it by the time I got to my sister’s. I really enjoyed the characters and found them to be real and three dimensional, people I want to know more about. I also like the humor and found some of it to be subtle and intelligent. Being from Chicago I especially enjoyed some of the scenes around the city, especially the restaurants. I left the book at my sister’s and she said the same thing when she called me.

Not yor typical female detective , 05/03/2007

I had the pleasure of reading Dead Men Don’t Jog when it was given me by my wife. Now I generally read mysteries and suspense books featuring strong male detectives. I don’t usually like mysteries featuring female detectives as they tend to try to show the lead character as a hard-boiled woman, which does not come off all that well, but I liked the main character of this book, Maria Hart. She is a woman who is devoted to her husband and family and has a sense of justice and morality that comes through. She also deals very well with men without having to have a sense of bravado, or sleeping with them. There is real potential here for a successful series. I also liked the story where a man who was supposed to be at work on September 11th was not in his office, but rather in the arms of his girl-friend. I often wondered about that possibility. The author took this premise and created a rather suspenseful, and often humourous, tale. By the way, my wife loved the book and is now reading the sequel, Eliminating the Middleman.

  I love Maria Hart , 02/13/2008
Reviewer: Gerry Mackey
Wow, I love strong, sexy women. And the red-haired, full-figured Maria Hart is right at the top of my list. Chris Forman has cleverly created one of those fictional heroines I wish I could meet in real life. Maria is a smart, sassy, no nonsense insurance fraud investigator who never gives up in her pursuit of the truth. Family members describe her as inquisitive, tenacious, and plucky. She relentlessly tracks down the culprit, while maintaining her other persona as a loving wife and mother. This intuitive, coffee-guzzling sleuth is the one you want when you need to solve an unusual case. In Dead Men Don't Jog, the bad guy isn't just ripping off the insurance company, he's a sociopathic killer. Tracking him down is not just a one-woman show: Maria's whole family gets in on the action, helping her to bring this serial killer to justice. The characters are well-developed, the action is fast paced, and as a bonus, the reader is treated to some of Maria's famous recipes. If you like exciting mystery thrillers, I highly recommend Dead Men Don't Jog.
