Abstract:
Anthem of an Ordinary American is a collection of letters written by the author to his parents between 1954 and 1996. The letters describe the author’s experiences as an enlisted reservist on two years active duty in the U.S. Navy’s Mothball Fleet; as an art student for a year-and-a-half at Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute; and as an employee for 30 years with the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) and U.S. Department of Labor. They additionally depict scenes of everyday life in some average American families and touch on many other subjects as well.
