At first meeting, George Butler misjudges Coy Newhouser, as a humorous, gregarious, junk dealer who entertains few serious thoughts; however, Coy proves to be George’s valuable ally in a mission to reunite a troubled teenage girl with her father.

Abstract:
Rusty Cars and Fallen Stars is the story of teacher George Butler’s mission to reunite a troubled high school student, Lacy Richman, with her estranged alcoholic father who lives at Coy Newhouser’s salvage and pre-owned automobile business. Newhouser’s, located along a stretch of highway in rural Virginia, becomes a stage for family drama, educational debate, and spiritual warfare. Butler soon learns that his road of good intentions has numerous potholes, detours, and unexpected twists and turns. He discovers, too, that the jovial, gregarious Coy Newhouser is a masterful salesman of much more than used cars and parts.

This book was a surprise to me, since it was written by a former teacher. I always knew he had something special to offer, and this book proved me right. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and it brought back memories of some people I knew. It was a bit like stepping back in time to my school days, even though the experiences were nothing like my own. I am proud to have been able to know Jim Counts as an instructor, and now as an author. This book is easy to read, and has such believable characters that at times I felt like I was reading about my own friends and family.
