Drawing on personal letters, diaries and official records, Marching to Save a Nation: The 123rd New York Infantry is the three year sojourn of a regiment in the American Civil War. A complete muster roll is included.

Abstract:
Initiated into combat at the center of the maelstrom called Chancellorsville, the soldiers of the 123rd New York would see three years of hard service for the Republic. Serving in both the eastern and western theatres of the Civil War, they participated in the battles for Atlanta, the March to the Sea and the Carolinas Campaign. Personal letters and diaries give insight to their anger over civilians at home undermining the war effort, concerns as to elections, plus attitudes on generals and the war. Fighting for a sacred cause, barely half would return.

Right ON target, for ME! My maternal great-grandfather, Robert Cronk, served at Battle of Chancellorsville, and was wounded Day 3 at Gettysburg. Great detail following 123rd from Argyle, Washington County, NY to Chancellorsville to Gettysburg...where he was wounded on Day 3, and subsequently discharged.
