From the war-torn hills of the Korean War to the steaming jungles of pre-war Vietnam, this is the story of one man’s obsession with finding the truth—against all odds.

Abstract:
April 1953. The Korean War has raged for three years. A new soldier, Private First Class Edward Michaels, joins a patrol that encounters and destroys a superior enemy force. He returns as the patrol’s only survivor. For gallantry above and beyond the call of duty, Michaels is awarded America’s highest decoration for valor, the Medal of Honor.

But First Sergeant MacKenzie Campbell, a seasoned veteran of two wars, is skeptical. No one was left alive to confirm or deny the intrepid deed, which begs the question—is Michaels really an American hero?

  Outstanding Military Novel , 01/06/2008
Reviewer: Michael Patten
I was afforded the opportunity to read the first proof of The Medal and must say that I couldn’t put it down. I HAD to know what was going to happen to Mack Campbell and Edward Michaels on the next page. As a retired Army sergeant and combat veteran, I have to say that this is one of the best books I’ve read lately about war and the people involved in it. Mr. Lewis’ narrative was true to “the way it was,” and his dialogue was right on and filled with familiar colloquialisms that effectively added to the dramatic and comic moments of the story. Though fiction, the book is historically accurate and makes the reader feel like he or she is right there with the characters. The Medal is written so that a person with no military experience can enjoy it without wondering what the author is talking about. The book is a fast read, and not bogged down with the “filler” found in many military novels. He gets to the point, and every page provides a new revelation leading to the story’s powerful conclusion. I highly recommend The Medal to anyone who enjoys a good story, bottom line.

  Great Story , 09/04/2008

Lewis’ book is an excellent story told in such a manner that you just can not put this book down. The characters are very real people that are driven by the same emotions that the average person can relate to. If one is looking for an entertaining story that is 100% believable without all the “junk”, then this is the book. Would also make one great movie as well, I certainly hope that happens!
