The true life of bizarre mountain man John “Liver-Eating” Johnston has finally been exposed! Did he eat human livers? Did he boil human heads? This fascinating biography tells all.

Abstract:
The Avenging Fury of the Plains presents the truth about the often brutal frontier exploits of mountain man and Indian fighter, John “Liver-Eating” Johnston. What’s so special about this long dead frontier character? He purportedly ate the livers of Indians he’d slain in battle. His story was so compelling that Hollywood produced a movie (Jeremiah Johnson) about his wilderness experiences, starring Robert Redford. The Avenging Fury of the Plains is the first book to dismantle all the myths that surround the life of “Liver-Eating” Johnston. Did he really eat human livers? Read and discover for yourself.

I've been searching to know the truth about Liver Eating Johnston. Now, finally, all the myths are put to rest through the Avenging Fury of the Plains. I loved the way the book was laid out, how the author picked apart the myths about Johnston and provided the truth. I plan to read it again and again...A MUST HAVE book!!

I was hesitant to order this book because I knew very little about Liver Eating Johnston. But wow...I never expected such a well-formatted, interesting book about an old west character who's been dead for over 100 years. I must say that this book is engrossing. When I saw the movie Jeremiah Johnson, I believed the movie to be true. But The Avenging Fury of the Plains removed all the residue of untruth and presented a straight forward assessment of the real Johnston. The pictures were incredible! The book is amazing. I encourage everyone to read it!!

  A Good Read on Johnston , 09/16/2009

Johnston, or Johnson, has always been a person of interest. As a fan of the old west, particularly the mountain man era, I found Johnston to be a hard man from which I could extract the actual facts about his life. The Avenging Fury of the Plains gave me some great insights into the real Johnson. I saw in the credits of the film Jeremiah Johnson that two books were used to form the guts of the movie. Crow Killer by Thorpe and Bunker and another one called Mountain Man. It's nice to finally have the actual truth.

  Exceptional Biography , 12/05/2015

This biography is jam-packed with historical facts about the life of frontiersman Liver Eating Johnston. I was curious about his life when I heard that he was a cannibal. This turned out to be pure fiction. But his life is far more interesting that the movie that supposedly tells of his life (Jeremiah Johnson starring Robert Redford). I highly recommend it.
