Abstract:
Simon’s Place is set on the salient island of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands, spanning the period 1915-1988. Young Simon Belton’s quest to retain his grandfather’s large coconut plantation and a latent family fortune is challenged by elements of his bastard birth, the vagaries of island living, colonialism, invasion, and treachery. The allure of the South Seas, love, war, adventure, and ultimately sacrifice, are all woven into Simon’s personal struggle to protect and nourish his island birthright.
