Abstract:
Two 13-year-old boys, while exploring a dense forest, discover evidence that a very serious crime has been committed. When the police don’t believe them because of previous inaccurate reporting which proved to be an embarrassment to the department, and their parents cannot be told that they entered the forbidden forest for fear of being punished, these two amateur sleuths realize they must solve the old crime on their own. Eventually, by using all their detective skills, they manage to discover the identity of the culprit, at great risk to themselves.

Modern Day Hardy Boys Mystery , 09/14/2008

I highly recommend The Secret in the Forest for boys and girls age 10 and up. Adults will like it too. It's like a modern day Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew mystery; imagine an older Encyclopedia Brown with computer access. It's a little scary but not enough to give you nightmares. Author Sheila Adam McIntyre paints realistic pictures of a small town and forest with her enchanting words.

Secret in the Forest beats Nancy Drew! , 09/16/2008
Reviewer: Nancy Drew Bullion
I was riveted to my chair reading this gem and you will be too! The Secret in the Forest is the first mystery I have been enticed to read in its entirety. Considering I am 67 and have the same name, Nancy Drew (a family name), as the Nancy Drew mystery series (which I couldnt get interested in as a child), I think that is significant. I could not put this delightful book down, so I read it in one evening sequestered on my sunporch with my feline companion. Reminiscent of my childhood, the forest and farm scenes were totally delightful, scarey, intriging and surprising! Loved milking the cow from a child's perspective and countless other scenes! I was very impressed at how the 2 boys cleverly and carefully uncovered the name of the murderer, all the while being forbidden to enter the forest, they did just that time and time again! I was seriously scared for the safety of the 2 boys toward the end when the identity of the murderer was revealed. In my mind this was really happening! I positively loved it, and you will too! Whether you are child, adult or senior!

This book is a winner. Any middle-grade student (ages 9-12)who does not like to read will be hooked from the very beginning. The plot is fast-paced with twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the end. Even adults will enjoy this mystery.
