Abstract:
The stories in this book are drawn from Russian folk tales. Perhaps you know the stories of Kostchei the Deathless, Ivan Tsarevitch and the Gray Wolf, the Sleeping Tsarevna and the Seven Giants, and Baba Yaga. In Angel Cage, these characters are modern-day civil servants, doctors, scientists, businessmen, family members, predators and victims, medieval kings and their families. The characters wonder about the origin of their life stories and the extent to which they can change or escape them. The creator of the stories is the Kapellmeister. In his cathedral he meets his nemeses—Lisa, a boy, and a crow.
