Abstract:
The writer, John Updike, a New England acquaintance, described it well, “We have lost octaves of passion.”
Passion, along with purpose, is the vital ingredient the authors stress in their innovative book... $uccess.
The Hills wrote the book they wished they had read before publishing their first book.
Whether a poet, political prophet, mystery or memoir writer, this workbook will inspire you to shape life’s raw moments. Then, publish your passion into a successful book through proven marketing techniques.
The Hills say, “If only one writer masters the skills to publish his book successfully, we will have met our objective.”
In the words of Henry James, “Our passion is our task.”

“If you don’t know where you’re going, you will probably end up somewhere else.” Laurence J. Peter
This is just one of the provocative quotes used as the lead-off sentence in each chapter of "Success – Your Path to a Successful Book". Yet, it describes the purpose of the book itself. With a plethora of ‘how to’ and ‘now what’ books out there to guide writers from the novice to the manuscript-ready or already published, this book is a treasure. It touches on what is pertinent on just about everything an aspiring writer needs to know. It guides you on where to go to find in-depth information on a specific topic if necessary. Then, it clearly presents the importance of what to expect once your book is born.
When I was writing my first novel, I read so many ‘how to’ books that rambled incessantly on only one aspect of what I needed to know, I almost became overwhelmed and discouraged. How I wish I’d had this one easy to read, succinct and informative text. "Success" serves as a reference guide, a teacher, an invaluable resource, and a hands-on workbook in a mere 171 pages nestled between attractive covers and presented in a light-weight, ‘almost fits in your purse’ size!
Another, almost charming, element of this book is its approach. The two authors, successful writers in their own right, share their own experiences and what they’ve learned in a way that makes you feel like you’re being given a private tutoring with a true professional who is more like a personal friend. Although, I’m positive no professional who authors a ‘how to’ book intends to convey condescension in tone, often it creeps through causing one to second guess their own abilities.
Maralyn and Brenda Hill (not related) actually boost self-confidence and resolve!
As a both a traditional and POD published author of both a fiction and non-fiction book, a dabbler in free-lance, book reviewer, copy editor, and facilitator for a local chapter of the Florida Writers Association, I can honestly say that I’ll be enthusiastically promoting "Success – Your Pathway to a Successful Book" to all writers I meet regardless of which rung they stand on the ladder of success.

$uccess: Your path to a Successful Book by Maralyn D. Hill and Brenda C. Hill is a must-have, inspiring book purchase for aspiring writers. The passionate approach of $uccess surpasses most textbooks for its thoroughness, attention to detail and specific references for additional readings specifically related to the writer’s craft.
Not only do the Hills (no relation) identify hundreds of books, they include numerous websites for additional support . Their combined experience of past publication both in books, articles and on the internet rank them as 21st century mentors in this centuries old craft.
This easily read handbook combines not only sections on writing and editing techniques but also marketing and publishing. While the Hill team gives numerous hints for writing and publishing in $uccess, they go a step beyond by giving workshops in various locations where writers can come and get personal questions answered. To see if there is a workshop in your area, check their blog, www.noralyn.com/blogger/success.
