Abstract:
Quakerism: A Theology for Our Time is the first substantial work of Quaker theology since Robert Barclay’s Apology of 1676, yet it is written for the general reader. It elucidates the Quaker theology of the Inward Light, as found in Barclay and in George Fox, the founder of Quakerism. In their theology, the primary authority is the power within all people that can transform them into loving, compassionate, and peaceful persons, if only they attend to it. Biblical criticism and the discoveries of modern science enhance the original Quakerism and render it uniquely suited to our time.
