Abstract:
Preserving Community Character: A Citizens’ Guide to Saving Place and Halting Urban Sprawl describes how individuals can save the character of their communities and halt the progress of urban sprawl. Most books on the subject only describe the problem, but this book actually provides specific guidance on how to prevent communities from being destroyed by inappropriate development. It shows how to begin the process and how to continue and succeed using various effective strategies. Successful community models are also included. The author uses his extensive experience as an urban planner and community activist to guide others in preserving their own places.
