Abstract:
Yoga of the Microcosm: Spiritual Union with Nature for the 21st Century describes a path to rediscover one’s essential connectivity with and roots in nature. Its tone is conversational rather than academic, and the book is based on the author’s experiences in life including his childhood in a lovely “hill station” in India. Yoga is an inter-faith book that reflects the wisdom of many spiritual traditions including Taoism, Zen, Hinduism, and Christianity but avoids any kind of dogma. Its goal is to promote a non-materialistic spiritual worldview based on reverence for nature in general and the Earth in particular.

If you feel confused about life and have hard time dealing with what is going around us, then this book gives you an idea about what you might be able to do to find some kind of peace and tranquility. the author talks about making a connection with Nature to find one's joy. Obviously, connecting with Nature also has many practical benifits.

Siddhartha has done a remarkable job of explaining 2 profound theoretical constructs in laymen's terms and uses them to formulate a paradigm for living. He identifies the psychological aspect of human behavior in Freudian terms and then expands our identities as also being a microcosm, or a "smaller manifestation", of the whole universe. His explanations include personal reflections, literature and scientific research to help readers identify the complex formation of our personalities. His writings uphold the basic teaching of many great religions and are an excelent guide for stimulating discussions.

In this time of fear and uncertainty this book offers a different perspective on the challenges in our daily life. I found the book very interesting and could relate with many of the author's experiences. This book explains how to take a step back and contemplate the many different paths that life offers us. To many times we fail to see that we are viewing only false choices, not the options that can really change our attitudes. I have found that if I take time to stop and search for my inner space, the stress and frustration in my daily life can be transformed to peace and calm.

I (finally) found the time to sit quietly and read this book… and funny that 'making time to sit quietly' is actually one of the themes of the book itself. I really enjoyed what I read because I know that when I get caught up in busy schedules I am least happy, so the need to slow down and make time for solitude each day is a great thing. Having just sent our youngest child off to college, we have toyed with the idea of downsizing; this book makes a good case for only using what you need and having a smaller carbon footprint. So I found the book very relevant to my goals, and will help me put my priorities in order.

  Excellent Book! , 03/25/2009

The dismal state, in which our country and world are in, causes us stress and anxiety. Dr. Syam’s book offers inspiring hope and a suggestion for simplifying our complicated and materialistic lifestyles. Such suggestions help us to rediscover peace and joy in our daily lives. The book honors values and spiritual fulfillment. As I read it, I found myself pausing frequently to digest, reflect, and wholeheartedly agree. I felt my own energy revitalized. He has expressed so eloquently his passion for nature and life. I can identify with Dr. Syam’s strong connection with nature. My life can be pretty chaotic, so I too go to the country a couple of times a week to re-ignite my passion for nature and my lovely horses. It is truly a therapeutic experience as I rediscover my spiritual balance, nature’s beauty and calm, and the blessings in my life. Such experiences help me to feel grounded, refreshed, and rejuvenated. I highly recommend Dr. Syam’s inspirational book.
