Abstract:
Eleven year old Jamie lives with her parents after her grandmother, who raised her, died. Jamie has fun with her brother Rusty. They hunt pigeons, snakes and crawdads and play pranks on a detested visitor, sometimes with devastating results. Jamie’s mother is emotionally distant and burdens her with many chores. Jamie saves every penny for the time when she will run away. She learns that her psychic connection to her grandmother is the saving grace in her life. It helps her endure her unhappiness and face the future when her life is turned upside down.
