Revised 2016 Edition -- A literary memoir. A vivid portrayal of the difficult past experienced by the Jewish people in the early twentieth century, through a person's ability to confront life's instability.

Abstract:
A heartfelt literary memoir. A triumphant story about a Jewish orphan coming of age in beautiful Vienna in early twentieth century. She was raised by an affluent matron, a colleague of Theodor Herzl, the founder of Zionism. To escape anti-Semitism, the matron, Anita Miller, cared for her orphhan children with a goal of sending them to Palestine - the undeveloped country ruled by the British. In her teen years, Reisel moved to Poland in search of her biological father. Her escape from indignity and loneliness in Poland, enabled by a fictitious marriage, bound her to an ambivalent relationship.
Reisel possessed an inspiring gift of resourcefulness and wisdom that gave her the strength to deal with life in Europe and Palestine.

  A Great Story , 02/24/2011

Sara Ronen’s book “THE PRICE OF A PASSPORT” unfolds two stories beautifully woven together. The background of pre WWII Europe, provides the stage for the revealing story of a brave young woman, who against all odds, is determined to build her life in Palestine and to fight for the love of the man to whom she was married. It is a fascinating story, I truly enjoyed reading it.

I found this book very interesting and informative. It helped me to better understand my own background. Both of my parents grew up in similar circumstances, but never talked about their pasts. I now have a deeper appreciation of their struggles. It left me wanting to know what happened next.

My eyes were glued to the pages the whole story long. This is a dramatic and riveting tale that brings you on an amazing journey in the extraordinary life of an amazing woman. It helps you to understand the realities of the pre-war Zionist movement that would one day be modern Israel, and gives a first hand account of the unforgettable atrocities done in the name of anti-Semitism leading up to the WWII era. I laughed and cried, and now sing the praises of this beautiful tale. Must read!!! Bravo!!!
