Abstract:
This is no ordinary dog book and the dear dogs you meet here are nothing short of extraordinary. These pages are bursting with photographs and stories of special need rescue dogs, and the caring people who adopted them. Blind Faith was inspired by the author’s own two dogs, Twinkle and Kizmit, neither of which have eyes. What they do have is heart—and when they entered her life, they changed it forever. Peek in these pages at the many dogs like them and the families they have touched. Catch a glimpse of the transformations, miracles and heartbreaks, of a special need parent. Get to know these amazing dogs for who they are and not for what they lack.

As I sat reading “Blind Faith” by Yvonne Harper, I had my cat on my lap, a tissue in my hand, and a smile on my face. The book’s primary focus lies in the author’s experience with her two rescue dogs, Twinkle and Kismet, both of which are blind. They are the inspiration for the book and we soon discover, they are also the impetus to changing the author’s life forever.
Page by page you are introduced to a variety of special needs dogs that she has met over the past few years. You get a feeling of destiny with these stories. The idea of the dog finding you rather than you finding the dog is a recurring theme. For any number of reasons or circumstances, these special animals have found the special owner that would in the end, be their perfect match. These families have hearts of gold and inspire the reader to simply be a better person – to give more and complain less, to be patient, to be thankful for every day. These are a few of the countless life lessons these beautiful people and their dogs teach us.
Each story is accompanied by a photo of the stars of the book and when you look at these beautiful faces you fall in love over and over again. The author doesn’t gloss over the fact that opening up your heart to these special furballs can lead to some serious heart ache, but I believe that is her point. You can’t experience great love without opening yourself up for it.
These dogs have been rescued from a variety of horrible situations. The author strongly cautions potential dog owners about breeders giving practical advice on researching the breeder and cues to use when you visit the breeders home.
“Blind Faith” is an inspirational story that reminds us that we can make a difference in the world. These special dogs don’t complain, they don’t feel sorry for themselves, they just love. They appear to be fearless creatures seemingly unaware of their limitations. What a world it would be if we all followed their lead.
