Smoky Bill Hotchkins is a moonshiner, a bootlegger and a vender of liquor, all these pursuits made illegal by the Prohibition Law passed in 1920. But Bill doesn’t let the law distract him in following his chosen profession.

Abstract:
In 1920 the Prohibition Law was passed. This law made the manufacture, transportation and sale of alcoholic beverages illegal. Though well-intentioned, it was considered by most a dismal failure—people wanted to drink.

When liquors couldn’t be purchased, some made their own. Bill Hotchkins, known as Smoky Bill, had a distillation operation, a “still”, hidden in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains. He peddled his product, known as “moonshine” or “shine”, in local towns.

Sheriff Cornelius Stoker and federal agent “Shootin’ Dan Taylor” were determined to put him out of business.

Fifteen-year old Freddie Collins and his mother, Wilma, were drawn into the conflict by circumstance.
