Abstract:
ONCE THERE WAS A PLACE CALLED SAMPSON’s lead story is the history of a previously rural community in northwest St. Johns County, Florida. The book also includes a nostalgic collection of Florida-related articles about people, places, rural activities, and poisonous creatures. Some stories were previously published; some are published here for the first time. All are indicative of the love and respect of the author for Florida, its pioneers, and rural heritage. They are also pleas for preservation and respect of the rural and historic character of Mickler’s community and home state.
