Abstract:
Born of a rape, Jack endures a painful childhood, the target of teasing and ridicule. Later a teenage romance leaves him with a broken heart. Then he reads of a man who also has known pain and suffering, but who rises above tragedy. Jack is so impressed he follows his idol into the bloody battle of San Juan Hill where both perform heroically. The two forge a friendship based on mutual admiration. Jack marries, while his father-figure goes on to become President. But Jack faces a test when he learns he may have fathered a child during his youthful affair.
