An extraordinary chronicle of the Nazi occupation of Belgium brought out strongly and dramatically to life. It tells of fear, hunger and oppression, but also of fierce resistance against a murderous regime.

Abstract:
On May 10th, the day the Nazis attacked the West and invaded Belgium, a young teenager starts a journal which he keeps until the liberation of Brussels in September 1944.

He tells of growing up among the upheaval of war, hunger, cold and destruction, trying all the while to pursue a demanding high school education.

The book is a moving and richly detailed account of a time of fear and anguish and the yearning for the ultimate victory over tyranny and death.

This almost day-by-day diary turns out to be one of the most compulsively readable war narratives, as seen from the civilian side.

An amazing narrative of history and humanity. The author's description of his family and homeland's occupation demonstrates not only his incredible maturity and intellect for a youth, but also his wit and insight. His descriptions paint a compelling and detailed portrait of everyday life in an unimaginable situation - youthful optimism in a very grim time. Thank you for your diary and for sharing it with us!
