Abstract:
An old abandoned automobile, a derailed romance, an intriguing photograph of a man no one wants to talk about, and a gregarious storekeeper with a story to tell are all parts of a mystery that fascinates young Chester Henry, as he grows up in rural Virginia. Years later, in 1964, when Chester leaves home to attend college in Ohio, he carries a double yoke of homesickness and anxiety about his upcoming challenges. However, his outlook brightens as he encounters two sources of great interest: a quiet, enigmatic female classmate and a secretive professor who might hold the missing piece to a long-unsolved puzzle.

  A book with heart , 06/25/2011

This is one of the best books I've read in a long time, and I believe I enjoyed it even more than the first two written my Jim Counts. He was a former teacher of mine, and he has always been such a wonderful example and inspiration in my life as to how to conduct myself. I will never forget the influence he has had on how I look at things in life, and he helped me tremendously to grow as a person. This book only stresses that point more, and the characters are like people you actually know. I really hope that he chooses to continue the story of these characters in a sequel, for I would love to read more about them. He writes with such clarity and believability; plus, he also provides much spiritual guidance in the story as well, so that it is beneficial to the way we can actually live our life for the Lord no matter what comes our way. A person would be blessed to read any of the books written by Jim, and to actually know him makes me doubly blessed.
