Abstract:
How I Learned to Embrace Life: This Whole World Is Just a Narrow Bridge is a memoir by a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, who, while working as a bereavement department manager at a large hospice, was faced with the cancer diagnosis and ultimate death of her mother, as well as her own near death after a much anticipated pregnancy. The author shares how she was transformed by her personal and professional experiences to someone who values life’s impermanence and seeks to live her life fully “out loud.”

Poetic and Truthful Narative , 06/25/2011

I loved this book. Alissa Hirshfeld Flores writes a poetic and truthful narrative of her mother's difficult battle with cancer and her own near death as a result of childbirth. With her keen interpretation of the formative events in her life, and her sharp comprehension of literature and psychology, she holds a looking glass to her own thoughts, emotions and experiences during a harrowing and exhilarating intense period in her life. Reading this book. I leaned the importance of living life with courage and purpose, and that facing my own death hand the death of loved ones can l bring me closer to God and to realizing why I am here on earth. The author teaches us how we are able to grow and help each other move more purposefully through time and space, with humor and deliberation.
