Abstract:
On July 3, 1863, General George Pickett led a charge against the Union center that gained nothing but glory. Follow Private Jonathan Russell of the 8th Virginia Infantry of Brigadier-General Robert Garnett’s brigade as he shares his recollections on an event that would impact his life at Gettysburg: The Field of Glory. The history for this project was taken from the Official Records of the War of the Rebellion, personal diaries, letters, regimental histories, and the Southern Historical Society Papers. Included are period photographs of participants, locations, and period newspaper articles covering this traumatic event.
