Encounter an odd couple of historic dimension as they ride roughshod through the American Civil War. History may never be the same.

Abstract:
Encounter Jim Grottenbottom, a man of science and inventiveness but considerably lacking in the areas of neatness and order. In the present story Jim is joined by his lifelong friend, Nate Hortinbey, a man whose passion for tidiness and stability belie the possession of a thoroughly disorganized mind. These two unlikely heroes are accidentally transported by one of Jim’s creations and ride roughshod through the American Civil War. Space, time and history may never be the same.

Had a very good time reading ANY TIME NOW , 03/12/2012
Reviewer: J. Grayson
In only two days' time--time well spent--I devoured the novel ANY TIME NOW. John J. Marnien utilizes comedy and sci-fi elements, amid a predominantly Civil War setting, to deliver to us a rioutous adventure which just may teach us something of history if we happen to be paying attention. I was struck by some of the techniques that were employed in the writing. Techniques that called to mind other great novels that I've read. For instance, there is the "friend-of-the-protagonist narrator", reminiscent of many of Edgar Rice Burroughs' stories, as well as H.G. Wells' eternally-classic THE TIME MACHINE--and many others from sci-fi's golden age. Also, the attitudes and antics of our modern men stranded in the late 1800s was very CONNECTICUT YANKEE-ish. And the humor continually brought to my mind THE HITCHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY! Very tongue-in-cheek throughout, and sometimes just plain over-the-top hilarious; I laughed out loud several times. We can now add to such genre staples as "The Time Tunnel" and "The Flux Capacitor" a new device to disrupt our linear lives: Mr. Marnien has given us the "Spaceo-Geo-Transcendental-Locator"! And while WE may never notice a difference, Nate Hortinbey's and Jim Grottenbottom's histories may never be the same....
