Abstract:
The Star Spangled Son is a tale of Bud Cotter, a young, naive naval aviator. Upon his graduation from navy flight school, he is ordered to Navy Composite Squadron VC-110 which operates outmoded propeller driven aircraft. From his arrival in Hawaii to the air over Vietnam, the yarn follows the young pilot through romances and manifold exploits in the venerable Douglas A-1 Skyraider. His skipper, a salty, unorthodox and tough minded veteran naval aviator, serves as the catalyst which transforms the young ensign from placid naivety to a warrior worthy of a horseman of Attila the Hun.
