Abstract:
In Living in My Skin, Even if it’s Purple, an inspirational memoir, six-year-old Debbie discovers she has one red arm and one white arm—an extensive port wine stain (birthmark). Taunted as a child because of her difference and ignored by boys in her teens, she refuses to allow her birthmark to imprison her and eventually learns self-acceptance. Later, medical problems lead to surprising developments and obstacles—finding love while hospitalized, experiencing paralysis during pregnancy, learning to walk again, and ultimately discovering that her birthmark is a symptom of Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome (K-T), a rare congenital disorder.

Reviewer: Tom I.
Engaging, motivational, and caring life-experience true story that keeps you "up a little late" wanting to learn more of her life adventure. Eloquent, crisp writing style flows like a Dan Brown thriller, that engages the reader to want more and wonder what would/could happen next. Flavored with just the right amount of humor in exactly the right places. A good laugh or chuckle now and then is good medicine. You just want to keep reading more and more and keep pulling for that happy ending. Debbie's writing style allows the readers to paint a vivid and real mental picture of all these real life events. Exudes intelligence and teaches one to learn about one's own health and learn to be informed and sometimes smarter than those trying to give you better health. Most readers' health issues will pale compared to Debbie's, but everyone will learn that facing life with hope, perseverance, and compassion can still make life a rewarding experience.
