Abstract:
Alex, the Lonely Black-footed Penguin is a mostly true story of a young penguin who joined the Ross Park Zoo in Binghamton, New York with five adult penguins. On the shores of Africa, the older penguins venture out to sea to gather food while the babies or youngsters wait ashore in what is called a nursery. In the zoo, Alex was the only young penguin. The adult penguins ignored him and were even mean to him at times. Alex was a forlorn, lonely little bird who spent much of his time huddled in an abandoned doorway. This is his story.
