Physiologist G. Edgar Folk recounts explorations of near and far horizons—all part of his quest to “combine an outdoor life with research.”

But it was not all exotic locales: the ever-present need to earn money to pay tuition exposed Folk to interesting people and experiences that, surprisingly, may have saved his life during WW II. A researcher at the legendary Harvard Fatigue Laboratory during that war, he also knew and worked alongside some of physiology’s “greats,” including Donald Griffin, Bruce Dill, John Welsh, Larry Irving, and Harwood Belding.
