Abstract:
“Caesar was stabbed by many knives.” Theses prophetic words precede the attempted assassination of Mayor Henry Pell by his life -long friend Billy Lyle. A sniper shoots Billy as does Pell’s brother, Police Commissioner Frank Pella.
Commissioner Pella and his top aide Eugene Baird investigate the attempt on Henry’s life. The sniper kills two more people and nearly kills Henry’s wife Janet.
A land fraud case involving Henry’s friends and family stealing titles to properties in the Badlands emerges as a motive for the assassination attempt.
Eugene is attacked in the Badlands but survives.
