Abstract:
Ephemera examines Confederate James Bruckner’s harrowing psychological and spiritual journey from naïve volunteer to traumatized veteran of Sharpsburg. He battles against the moral, emotional and philosophical ravages inflicted upon him by the cataclysm of war. He confides his thoughts and feelings to his diary, and struggles to express them in letters written to his wife, Freda.
War’s verities are eternal: Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, too, have been irrevocably changed by their experiences. Ephemera explores painfully pertinent contemporary issues in a lyrical, reflective manner.
Ephemera simultaneously reveals James’ devout, undying passion for Freda; a gallant, restrained romance befitting a bygone Age.
