Abstract:
The book addresses the context and early residents of a unique neighborhood in the Oak Cliff precinct of Dallas, Texas planned in the 1930’s by distinguished Kansas planner George Kessler. The neighborhood in a wooded hill area featured well-constructed single-family homes built in the Prairie Style vernacular sensitive to slope-site construction and the area eventually gave way to development in the 1950’s that was less sensitive to slope-site construction technology. The book further discusses adjacent neighborhoods, parks, schools and educational norms of the Dallas Independent School District along with numerous interesting characters and personalities of the 1930’s, 1940’s and 1950’s.
