Abstract:
Summer vacation finds J.B. hoping to keep a promise he made to the pirates' cabin boy, Toby . After returning Toby to his home, Rue accidentally leads the boys into a Civil War battle where they discover an injured drummer boy, Travis. Dr. Andric once again helps the boys and Travis is put into a foster home while authorities search for relatives. The boys and Tehya try to help Travis understand this future world since so many things are new to him, even a man-eating van! The kids join together for summer fun horseback riding, eating out, hiking, doing art lessons, visiting Niagara Falls, and spending a day at Wonderworld. But Travis must return home, and J.B. meets Travis's regiment before it all ends. Travis gives J.B. a little Bible, hoping he will read it. Through the inscription J.B. discovers he may have helped his great-great-great-great-great-grandfather!
