David P. Lafayette resigned his position as a federal government executive in Washington, D.C., in 1976. He purchased a general store in Fremont, New Hampshire, and subsequently built two additional specialty markets in Raymond and in Stratham, N.H. He retired from these businesses in 2002. He has traveled extensively by bicycle through many Midwestern towns. This is his first novel. He lives with his wife, Neil, on Anastasia Island, in St. Augustine, Florida.
